Norman A. Ronning passed away July 31, 2011 -- 30 minutes before his second great-grandson, Achilles, was born ? certain to be an angelto watch over the newest member of his family. Norm had been struggling with his health and in and out of hospice for several years. He had an especially difficult time after his bride, Darlene, of 57 years passed on unexpectedly in February of this year. Norm loved to tinker and was always dreaming of inventing simple gadgets. He loved helping his friends and family with house projects, politics, writing music, golfing, fishing, making rings and stained glass pieces. Born July 23, 1927, in Montevideo, MN, the youngest of nine children of Jens and Christine Ronning. Norm was a railroad engineer with the Milwaukee Road Railroad most of his life, and finished his career with the Burlington Northern Railroad until he retired in 1987. Norm served in the army during the Korean War from 1951-1953. He married Darlene Bohn on October 23, 1954. They had three children, Patti Ronning (Newport Beach, CA), Cindy Kuno (Edina, MN), and Bill Ronning (Eagan, MN). Norm was also survived by his brother, David Ronning (wife Vange) of Mountain Home, AR, two granddaughters, Megan Horner (Matt Horner and great-grandsons, Rocco and Achilles) and Jocelyn Kuno, all of Lake Forest, CA, along with many nieces,nephews and cousins. A joint burial service for Norman and Darlene will be held in the future at Baxter Cemetery near Boyd, MN.
