Norman Elwood Kjos was born February 16, 1922, the son of Fred & Jenny Kjos in Friendship Township, Yellow Medicine County. He attended country school through grade five. The family moved to Boyd, where Norman graduated from high school in 1941. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Anderson on November 18, 1942, in Appleton, Minnesota. Norm was inducted into the United States Army in January of 1943. He served in both the European Theater of Action and also the South West Pacific Theater. Following his honorable discharge in January of 1946, Norm returned to Montevideo and worked as a police officer for the railroad for 16 years. He went on to work for the Granite Falls Police Department for 21 years. Norm passed away on Friday, July 2, 2010, at Riverside Assisted Living in Granite Falls. He was 88 years of age. He is survived by his wife Phyllis; two sons: Michael (Barb) Kjos of Hopkins and Rand (Shelley) Kjos of Apple Valley: four grand children; two great grandchildren and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Allan, Byron and Erling.
