Norman Foss

November 9, 1916 — October 13, 2008

Norman William Foss was born in Hazel Run on November 9, 1916, the son of John & Thora Foss. He attended school in Hazel Run. He worked for John Morell in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In August of 1943, Norman served his country in the United States Army as a medic overseas for three and a half years. He served in Germany,Belgium, Czechoslovakia and Holland. He received the Battle of Normandy Award. He was honorably discharged on October 23, 1945.Norman was united in marriage to Gladys Kruse on April 14, 1948, at the First Baptist Church in Granite Falls. They lived their entire married life in Granite Falls. They just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Norman worked on construction for Minnesota Valley Improvement for twenty years. Following his retirement he was a RSVP volunteer and was a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the Community Bible Church in Montevideo and active with the senior group at the church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and also enjoyed auctioneering as a hobby. Norman passed away on Monday, October 13, 2008, at the Granite Falls Hospital. He was 91 years old. He is survived by his wife Gladys and daughter Marilyn (Joe) Peterson of Maple Grove; grandchildren: Tammy (James) Conklin of Maple Grove; Trenton (Kamille) Peterson of East Bethel and Tad (Susan) Peterson of Maple Grove; great grandchildren: Kayla and Kameron Conklin of Maple Grove and Angelisa, Naven and Tamene Peterson of East Bethel; his brother George Foss of Spokane, Washington and two brothers-in-law: John Kvistad of Granite Falls and Le Verne Stevens of Spokane, Washington; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters: Alvida Westre, Lilian Foss, Helma Eye, Mabel Fuller, Thelma Kvistad and Ruth Stevens, and four brothers: Julien, Oscar, Hjalmer and Elmer.
