Mitchell Tobias of Montevideo passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 83, on March 8, 2016. Mitchell was born in St. Paul on May 6th, 1932 and attended school in Dawson. He served his country in the US Army from 1951 to 1952 and saw combat action in Korea. He earned a Bronze Star, the Korean Service Medal and a United Nations Service Medal. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He married Loretta Bergo, September 30, 1955. Happily married for 60 years, Mitchell always said that Loretta was the best thing that ever happened to him and that he was unbelievably lucky to have her in his life. Mitchell and Loretta settled in Minnetonka, where they raised their two children, John and Sandra. After 30 years with the US Post office, Mitchell and Loretta retired in Montevideo and wintered in Texas.
Mitchell enjoyed spending time at the family cabin and enjoyed fishing and golfing. As a lifelong golfer, he installed a driving range in the basement of their Minnetonka home and golfed in many amateur tournaments. He tried to instill his love of golf in his children and grandchildren by giving them their own homemade clubs and loved sharing his passion for the game.
Mitchell is survived by his wife Loretta, children John (Mary) and Sandra (Dan), and his grandchildren Aubrey and Zelda.
