Mike Moe, age 76, of Montevideo, Minnesota, passed away Friday, October 6, 2023 at Luther Haven Nursing Home. Memorial Service will be Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from noon – 1:00 PM, one hour prior to the service at the church.
Michael Albert Moe was born on October 11, 1946 to Mons and Nellie (Paugh) Moe in Montevideo, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Mike attended Montevideo High School before joining the United States Navy in 1963. He was stationed in San Diego and served on the USS Chicago in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1967.
After his service, Mike met the love of his life, Joyce Johnson, in Milbank, South Dakota. The two were united in marriage on June 21, 1969 at Elim Lutheran Church in Clinton. Mike and Joyce made their home in Montevideo for 54 years.
Mike worked for Duininck Brothers for 42 years driving truck and hauling equipment. He was a hard worker who never said no to a job.
Mike was a member of the American Legion Post #59 and the VFW Post #380. He served on the VFW’s Bar Board for 15 years, was the Service Officer for the Post, and did equipment maintenance. Mike was known to help put on great fish fries and taco nights at the VFW.
Mike was a humble, witty man. He enjoyed his daily visits to Trailways Cafe, Ruether Brothers shop, and the VFW. He liked to go deer hunting and fishing, and was an animal lover, especially dogs and horses.
Mike is survived by his daughters, Kimberly (Doug) Erickson of Buffalo, Jennifer (Kendall) Kragenbring of Becker; daughter-in-law, Kim Moe of Montevideo; step-daughter, Barbara Berentson of Mankato; grandsons, Michael (Kait) Erickson, Brady Erickson, Jacob Kragenbring, Samuel Long; siblings, Janet Ruether, Ron (LeAnn) Moe, Tom Moe, Debbie Moe; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce; son, Jon Moe; grandson, Christopher Long; sister, Carol Sundem; nephew, Jim Ruether; niece, Denise Phillips.
