Michael Steven Iverson was born on Saturday, March 9, 1957, in Montevideo, MN, the son of Clair and Lorraine Iverson. He was baptized on November 17, 1957 at Watson Lutheran Church in Watson, MN and confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 30, 1972 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Mike attended high school in Montevideo and later attended Alexandria Technical College for Law Enforcement. On September 14, 1974, Mike was united in marriage to Julie Macziewski at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Montevideo, MN. They lived in Montevideo and Mike worked in North Dakota, Montevideo and Raymond until he finished his post high school education in Law Enforcement. In 1990 he became Police Chief in Hancock, MN and in 2001, he and Julie moved to Wells, MN where he served as Police Chief until moving to Benson. Mike worked at Redball Manufacturing and Mattheisen Disposal in Benson until his health forced him to remain at home. Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycle, camping, playing cards and spending time with his family and friends. He was also a gifted carpenter and could fix most anything requiring his attention. For a short time, he was engaged in taxidermy. In the early morning hours of Saturday, April 2, 2011 in the loving presence of his wife, children and grandchildren, Mike was called to our Lord's Heavenly Kingdom while at home, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 54 years of age. Surviving family include his wife Julie of Benson, MN; his children- Steven (& Jessica) Iverson of Hancock, MN, Daniel (& April) Iverson of Janesville, MN, Craig (& Mandy) Iverson of Benson, MN and Penny (& Josh) "Iverson" Nipple of Montevideo, MN; his mother Lorraine Iverson of Montevideo, MN; a sister Betty (& Vern) Athaus of Melrose, MN; and 6 grandchildren- Scott, Tessa, Tori, Skylar, Lathen & James. He was preceded in death by his father Clair; his two brothers- Ron & Scott and his maternal & paternal grandparents Burgess & Thelma Young and Art & Nora Iverson.
