Michael Blue, 54, of Granite Falls, passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at United Hospital in St. Paul. Memorial service will held on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Upper Sioux Multi Purpose Building. Visitation will be held Thursday afternoon at the Upper Sioux Multi Purpose Building and will continue until the time of the service on Friday.
Michael Moses Blue was born January 9, 1970, the son of Gerald & Gertrude (Ritz) Blue in Minneapolis, MN. He grew up in Rosholt, SD and graduated from Rosholt High School in 1988.
Mike enlisted in the South Dakata National Guard and served in the 2nd Battalion 147th Field Artillery in Sisseton, South Dakota. He was honorably discharged from the army in August of 1990. At that time Mike continued to serve his country in the United States Coast Guard. He was honorably discharged in November of 1992. He earned many commendations during his military service.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends camping, cookouts, powwows, playing with his friends on their billiard team. He was a diehard Vikings fan and loved taking his son Tyler to watch Vikings training camp when he was small and watching his sports as he got older. He was proud of his Dakota heritage and a devoted member of the Upper Sioux Community in Granite Falls, MN. He was deeply committed to promoting peace and justice in his career and in his personal life.
Mike worked as a compliance officer and criminal investigator with NIGC and various gaming entities.
Mike graduated from the Minnesota School of Business with an Associated in Applied Science Degree in Paralegal in March of 2016. At the time of his death he was a student at Ridgewater College in Willmar, MN. He enjoyed continuing his education his entire life.
Mike is survived by his mother Gertrude Blue of Rosholt, SD; son Tyler Michael Blue of Montevideo, MN; brothers: Paul Davis of Tooele, Utah; Scott Larsen and Robert Johnson of Granite Falls, MN; and sisters: Deborah Francis of Fairmount, ND; Kathy Talbert of Brooklyn Center, MN; Karen Stanley of Frederick, MD; Nancy & Jaime Savariego and Wendy Chapparo of Granite Falls, MN; and several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Gerald S Blue, sisters Pamela Kaisen and Crystal Johnson and brothers Greg Blue and Melvin Johnson, Jr.
