Melvin Kenneth Sorenson was born on July 16, 1926, in Appleton. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Artichoke Lutheran Church in Swift County and on November 7, 1948, was united in marriage to Eunice Delores Johnson in the Chokio Lutheran parsonage. Melvin and Eunice were blessed with four children- Kenny, Linda, Keith & Brenda. Melvin worked at a variety of jobs during his active years, including driving truck, construction, carpentry and cabinet making, park manager and for the years prior to his retirement, he worked for the City of Granite Falls. Melvin was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed the outdoors and especially liked to watch wildlife and work in the yard raising flowers. He also fished, hunted and loved to fix and do repairs on lawn mowers, snow blowers and all types of mechanical devices. Visiting and having fun with his grandchildren brought him great joy. In the evening hours of Wednesday April 21, 2010, Melvin was called from this life while a resident of the RenVilla Care Center in Renville. He was 83 years of age. He is survived by his wife Eunice of Granite Falls; his daughter Linda (& Bruce) Hildahl of Granite Falls; his son Keith (& Linda) Sorenson of Granite Falls; grandchildren- Tracy Leenerts, Stacy (& Ron) Banken, Jason (& Becky) Hildahl, Kelsey Sorenson; great grandchildren- Brynn & Brooke Banken and Calla and Cadence Hildahl; a sister- Betty (& Jerry) Friederich of Hutchinson; a sister-in-law Ginny Sorenson of Grove City; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Kenny his daughter Brenda and a brother Gordon.
