Melva Joyce Aeikens was born on Sunday, February 10, 1946 in Slayton, Minnesota to Edgar Melvin and Inez Sivia Harman. She received her formal education in the Lake Wilson Elementary and the Princeton Public School graduating from Princeton High School. She married Gale Dawson in June of 1969. She worked at the Federal Reserve Bank in Minneapolis from 1969 until 1977. On May 14, 1977, she was united in marriage to Dennis Aeikens in Princeton, Minnesota. The family moved to Montevideo and in addition to raising her children, Melva was a Day Care mother for seven years. She then worked at Montevideo Technology, Inc in Montevideo from May 20, 1985 until September of 2007. As a dedicated member of Community Bible Church in Montevideo, Melva served as Sunday school teacher and coordinator of the ladies service group. She was baptized in 1987 in the church she so dearly loved. In her leisure time, she enjoyed reading, letter writing, fishing and especially loved time spent with her family. On Tuesday evening, December 2nd, after a courageous battle with cancer, Melva was called to her heavenly home while a patient at the Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park. Cherishing her memory are her devoted husband Dennis; her children: Kelly (Don) Snell of Montevideo, Amy (Bob) Laumb of Raymond, Eric Aeikens of Montevideo, Ryan Aeikens of Mankato; 3 grandsons: Jackson and Bradon Snell and Evan Laumb; her sister-in-law Stella Morrell of Sun City West, AZ; her brothers Rodney of Morgan, Roger (June) of New Hope, Darald (Clarice) of Princeton and Donald (Christine) of Glendale, AZ; as well as nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.She was preceded by her grandparents Johanna & Erick Gustafson, and Francis & Henry Harman, her parents Melvin & Inez; 2 brothers: Jim Morrell and LeRoy Harman, and infant sister and brother with whom she was a triplet.
