Mel "Mellaya Johnson" Canatsey

Mel (Mellaya Johnson) Canatsey, age 20, left this world on Monday, December 20, 2021 at her home surrounded by family. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 27, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Montevideo. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 26, 2021 from 3:00 – 6:00 PM at Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Montevideo and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mel was a Marvel fanatic and talented artist. Mel’s favorite pastime was swinging. She was even able to talk her dad into moving snow in the early Spring, so she could get to the swing. She had the softest heart, especially when new kittens were born on the farm. Mel had a deep love for family. She enjoyed the family camping trips and traveling to new places.
Mel was a 2020 graduate of Montevideo Senior High School. After graduation, Mel attended and successfully completed Project Search in Marshall, Minnesota in June of 2021.
Mel received such great care from the Children’s Hospital and Clinic, U of M Masonic doctors and nurses, Rice Hospice and the Upper Sioux Community.
Mel is survived by her parents, Loyd and Jill Canatsey; siblings, Matt Matti of Oak Grove, MN, Sam (special friend, Sophia Hustad) of Granite Falls, Daniel (Jenny) Klatt of Sartell, Chris (Megan) Canatsey of Granite Falls, Rachel (Jesse) Yerbich of Circle, MT, Katie Canatsey of Granite Falls, Adrianna Howell of Granite Falls; nieces and nephews, Layne, Carey, Austin, Karter, Sara, Lukas, Nathan, Emily, Danny Jr. Payton, Jaxson, Talan, Holden, Harper, Dylan (special friend, McKinna), Lauren, Connor, Kyle, Landry; special family friend, Shelly (Tim) Elkington; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents and extended family.
Mel was preceded in death by her birth mother, Crystal Johnson; brother, Thunder Brotherofall; nephew, Benjamin Yerbich.
