May Viola Barber was born on May 22, 1927, in Hawk Creek Township, Renville County, MN, the daughter of Peter and Inger Nordang. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and grew up in Granite Falls, graduating from high school there in 1946.On June 22, 1946, May was united in marriage to George H. "Bud" Barber, Jr. in Granite Falls. This union was blessed with seven children. In addition to raising her family, May was employed by the Granite Falls School District. Her various duties included driving school bus, head cook and eventually, head custodial supervisor. She also drove the corn detasseling bus for the young workers during the summer months.May was a devoted wife and loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her family and loved to cook, go camping, work in her garden, photography, care for her pets and write stories. May was also a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Granite Falls and participated in numerous church related activities.In the early morning hours of Monday May 30, 2011, May was peacefully called from this life while a resident at the Golden Living Center in Olivia, MN. She was 84 years of age.She is survived by her husband George "Bud" Barber of Granite Falls, MN; her daughters- Christy (& Jace) VonOlnhausen of Pine Haven, WY, Jo Ellen (& Roger) Tweeter of Montevideo, MN and Elaine (& Merlin) Jeseritz of Shakopee, MN; her sons- Dan (& Gail) Barber of Alexandria, MN, Jon (& Brenda) Barber of Blomkest, MN, Ronnie (& Pam) Barber of Hermon, ME and Barry (& Julie) Barber of Shakopee, MN; 17 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; one brother Marvin (& Bev) Nordang of Granite Falls, MN; a sister-in-law Orpha Nordang of Granite Falls, MN and extended family.Preceding May in death were her parents Peter & Inger Nordang; sisters- Alma, O'Della, Martha, Mary Ann and an infant unnamed sister; brothers- Clarence, Carl, Ole & Albert.
