Maxine Janet Heglund was born February 14, 1925, in Granite Falls, Minnesota, to Selmer and Edna (Swenson) Lewis. She was baptized and later confirmed in her faith at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. Maxine grew up in Granite Falls and attended school there, graduating with the Class of 1943. She furthered her education in Minneapolis and obtained her nursing degree.
After college, Maxine came home and worked at the Granite Falls Hospital. On June 1, 1947, Maxine was united in marriage to Wayne “Bud” Heglund and they made their own home in Granite Falls. Maxine and Bud were blessed with three children, Julie, Kathleen and Scott.
Maxine also worked alongside her husband at Ben Franklin and later worked at Fromm Drug. She was a faithful member of the Granite Falls Lutheran Church and served the church in various ways, one of them being a Sunday school teacher for many years. Maxine loved to volunteer and you could find her helping with the Blood Mobile and the Legion Auxiliary of which she was a member.
Maxine enjoyed golfing, knitting, crocheting, needlework, and animals. She loved watching the Olympics and other sporting events; every Minnesota team was a favorite. Maxine treasured time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren.
Maxine is survived by her daughters, Julie Heglund of Waite Park, Kathy Austin of Bovey; son, Scott (Peg) Heglund of Granite Falls; granddaughter, Brodie Docken of Grand Rapids; grandson, Joey (Becca) Heglund of Golden Valley; sisters-in-law, Bette (Lewis) Johnson of Alameda, CA, Mavis Lewis of Granite Falls; as well as other relatives and friends.
Maxine is preceded in death by her parents, Slemer and Edna Lewis; husband, Wayne “Bud” Heglund; brothers, Galen (Marjorie) Lewis, Stanford Lewis, Roger (Miriam) Lewis; sisters-in-laws, Marvel (Al) Benson, Dory (Butch) Richter.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be given to Prairie Rose Assisted Living in Granite Falls.
