Marvin Nordang was born on June 16, 1932 to Peter and Inger (Ostenson) Nordang in Hawk Creek Township, near Granite Falls. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended country school. He then attended public school in Granite Falls and enlisted in the United States Navy prior to his high school graduation. He earned his GED while in the U.S. Navy. Marvin served his country during the Korean War as an airman in the U.S. Navy from July 20, 1950 to his honorable discharge on May 11, 1954. During that time he was stationed in Norfolk, VA and in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. He was employed most of his life as a boiler engineer with Victor Fluid Power and later Specialty Systems in Granite Falls. Marvin was married to Deanna Hagen on May 21, 1956. Deanna died on October 23, 1971. On September 5, 1973, Marvin married Beverly Moseng in Watertown, SD. He especially enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings, following them from their beginning. He enjoyed riding his scooters and motorcycles and loved to watch his grandchildren participate in their sporting events. Marvin was called peacefully from this life on Tuesday evening September 22, 2015, in the loving presence of family while a resident in Hospice at the Granite Falls Manor. He was 83 years of age. Surviving family include his wife Beverly of Granite Falls; his children: Cindy (Dave) Smiglewski of Granite Falls, Greg (Jayne) Nordang of Wood Lake, Natalie Nordang (Richard Thurman) of Brooklyn Park, Brad Nordang of Granite Falls and Lisa Nordang (Craig Pomerenke) of Hewitt, 12 grandchildren: Laurel (Chad) Christianson, Cody Smiglewski, Seth Smiglewski, Amanda Braun (Dustin), Chris (Jenny) Lorenzen, Nicole (Lane) Bodine, Tyler Gordon, Jocelyn Gordon, Kelly (Chris) Howe, Kantrice (Cody) Hess, Cheyanne Nordang and Garrett Nordang; 18 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and his dogs. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Deanna; his sisters: Odella Hildahl, Alma Agre, Martha (Tootsie) Abernathy, May Barber and two sisters in infancy; his brothers: Albert, Clarence, Carl and Ole.
