Martha Schlenker

Martha "Marty" Schlenker was born on February 22, 1917, in Evanston, Illinois. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John's Lutheran Church in Evanston and later converted to Catholicism. She attended school in Evanston and graduated from Evanston High School.In 1938, Marty was united in marriage to James Schlesky in Evanston and after his passing, she was married to Ervin Schlenker in 1978, in Citrus Heights, California.Marty worked in numerous jobs throughout her adult life including retail sales in both Illinois and California. She enjoyed knitting, traveling, painting, crocheting and spending time with her family and friends. For the past three months Marty had been a resident of the Ren Villa Health Center in Renville. She died there in the evening hours of August 15, 2013, at the age of 96 years. Surviving family include her daughter Penny Johnson of Granite Falls, her son James (& Marsha) Schelsky of Buffalo Grove, Il; grandchildren- William (& Audrey) Johnson of West Allis, WI, Mathew Schelsky of Elk Grove Village, Il, Lori (& Terry) Fagen of Sacred Heart, Gary (& Patti) Johnson of Omaha, NE, Richard Johnson of Walnut Creek, CA and Wendy Schelsky (& Jeff), of Savoy, Il; great grandchildren- Travis Fagen & Trevor Fagen both of Sacred Heart, MN, Kayla Johnson of Chisolm, Bradley Johnson of Mapleton, and Matthew Schelsky of Hoffman Estate, Il; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
