Marlys Hazel Strommer was born on March 30, 1937 in Montevideo, MN the daughter of Herbert and Hazel (Sanderson) Krenz. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith in Trinity of Havelock Lutheran Church, rural Maynard, MN and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1956.
On June 24, 1956, Marlys was united in marriage to John ‘Jack’ Strommer at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo. She worked as a quality inspector at MTI for 36 ½ years and sold Avon products for 25 years. Marlys enjoyed selling Avon, planting flowers, traveling with friends and spending time with her family.
For the past 7 years, Marlys courageously battled Alzheimer’s disease. She was called from this life in the morning hours of Monday October 31, 2016, while a resident of the Granite Falls manor. She was 79 years of age.
Surviving family include her husband John ‘Jack’ Strommer of Montevideo; her sons Ronald Strommer of Montevideo, and Thomas Strommer of Clara City; her daughter Laura Sears of Montevideo; 9 grandchildren- Kristina Mulder, Matt (& Brooke) Strommer, Crystal Strommer, Justin Strommer, Austin Strommer, Ashley (& Josh) Neu, Jordan Strommer, Kyler Strommer and Jessica Sears; 9 great grandchildren- Koltin Mulder, Kylie Strommer, Adilee Neu, Honor Neu, Bella Neu, Cassaundra Strommer, Brayden Strommer, Paisley Strommer and Layla Sears; 2 sisters- Delores Olson of Bird Island, and Betty Brown of North Minneapolis, as well as many friends and extended family.
Marlys was preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Hazel Krenz; a son- John Strommer, Jr; 2 sisters- Alvina Simon and Bernice Krenz; her father & mother-in-law John & Bernetta Strommer; brother and sister-in-law Robert (& LuAnn) Strommer and brother-in-law Wendell Olson.
