Marlue Folkens

Marlue Folkens, age 97, of Granite Falls, Minnesota passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at the Avera Granite Falls Care Center. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, September 13, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Granite Falls. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.

Marlue Patrona Folkens was born July 14, 1927 in Renville County, Minnesota to Steve and Madeline (Frank) Shubert. She grew up outside of Danube and was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. Marlue graduated from Danube High School.

Marlue met the love of her life, Dick Folkens, at the Highway Inn in Granite Falls. The couple was married November 21, 1953 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Granite Falls and made their home in Granite. 

Marlue had a green thumb and found joy in nurturing her plants and flowers. She also enjoyed cooking, baking and reading. Marlue loved to be out and about, whether it was at family gatherings, shopping, or going out to eat. She also liked to enjoy a nice glass of wine every once in a while. 

Marlue is survived by her nieces and nephews, Charlotte (Weldon) Zondervan, Mark (Darice) Shubert, Luann (Steve) Lentz, Kevin (Theresa) Shubert, Jeff (Sharon) Shubert, Debbie Glaser, Todd (friend, Shelly) Shubert, Duane (Michelle) Shubert, Terri (Fred) Tillma, Jan (Clete) Svoboda, Nan Baasch; brother-in-law, Jim Folkens; as well as many great and great-great nieces and nephews. 

Marlue is preceded in death by her husband, Dick; parents, Steve and Madeline; brother, Merlin (Grace) Shubert, sibling-in-laws, Vivian (Lloyd), Eleanor (Clifford), Betty (Jack) and Mike; nephew, Brad (Char) Shubert.
