Marlene Olson, 81, of Montevideo, formerly of Watson passed away Sunday, February 28th at Home Front Assisted Living. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 6th at 11:30 am at Zion Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Marlene Carolyn Ann Olson was born April 21, 1939, the daughter of Alfred & Manda (Bangsund) Hegre in Montevideo. She was baptized and confirmed at Saron Lutheran Church. Marlene graduated from the Montevideo High School with the Class of 1957. She attended college at Concordia in Moorhead.
Marlene was united in marriage to Wyman Tongen on November 26, 1960, at Saron Lutheran Church. Together they raised a family and farmed until Wyman’s death in 1973. She was later united in marriage to Urban (Pat) Olson. Marlene was active at Zion Lutheran Church and served as Superintendent of Sunday School for many years. Later she was active in the Watson Lutheran Church. She was also a 4-H leader for the Watson Dynamite as her children were growing up.
Marlene worked at the Granite Falls Manor for several years. She enjoyed music and played the piano for the Song Birds at Park View Towers. After retirement she moved to Copper Glen and spent her last years at Home Front, where she passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2021. She was 81 years of age. During her lifetime she cherished her many friends and towards the end when there were no words, she always had her smile.
She is survived by her children: Susan (William) Dack of Montevideo, Shelly Zacharias (fiancé Benjamin Wallen) of Lino Lakes and Todd (Jodi) Tongen of Watson; grandchildren: Jesse (Questa) Dack, Nicole (Kevin) Gervais, Matthew Dack (special friend Victoria Tweeter), Cameron (Natalie) Zacharias, Alexandra Tongen and Bryce Tongen; great grandchildren: Cadence, Briggs, Nathaniel and Arabella; Sister-in-Law Sharon (Doc) Skordahl of Dawson; step children Nancy, Trish, Lorna, Kylene and Jon, step grandchildren: Christian, Anthony and Jenece and a number of step great grandchildren and extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Wyman Tongen and Pat Olson, and stepson Ronald Olson.
