Marjorie Lorraine Hammond was born January 7, 1921, the daughter of Harold & Florence Bassett, in Gilmonton, Wisconsin. For a short period of time, she worked in St. Paul, during World War II. Marjorie was united in marriage to Richard Hammond on May 1, 1947, in Staples, Minnesota. They lived in Moorhead, Breckenridge, Coon Rapids, and in 1955 moved to Granite Falls, where Richard taught school for 28 years and Marjorie was a stay at home mom. She loved to knit, sew, crochet, cook and bake. Together they also enjoyed traveling. She belonged to the Granite Falls Lutheran Church for 53 years, where she was involved in Circle. She was also active with the Homemakers Club and the Faculty Wives Club. In 1999, they moved to Willmar, where Richard passed away in 2000. Marjorie continued to live in Willmar, where she passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2008, at the Sterling House. She was 87 years of age. She is survived by her children: Linda Hammond of Bloomington; Sheryl Hammond of Willmar and Steven (Barbara) Hammond of Coon Rapids; one sister Barbara Teasdale of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard, two brothers and one sister.
