Marion Foley

August 20, 1925 — March 5, 2011

Marion E. Olson Foley was born on August 20, 1925 in Faribault, Minnesota to Earl and Leona Summers. She was raised on the family farm along with her paternal grandparents, aunts and uncles. The family later moved to the Montevideo area where she graduated from high school with the class of 1942.On April 2, 1943, Marion and Nordan Olson were married at her grandparents? home in Lac Qui Parle County. The couple farmed north of Montevideo before moving to Hazel Run. In addition to raising their children, Marion worked in a restaurant in Hazel Run and in Clarkfield. After moving back to Montevideo, she operated the Sales Barn Lunch Room. She eventually switched her primary occupation to housecleaning which she thoroughly enjoyed. One of her favorite pastimes was spending time at the family cabin. Nordan passed away in May 1981. On September 22, 1984, Marion married Joseph Foley. The newlyweds moved to rural Murdock where she once again enjoyed life on the farm. Following their retirement, she and Joe moved back to Montevideo. Joe passed away at the Clarkfield Care Center in August 2001. Marion was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo, Chippewa County Historical Society and enjoyed making quilts for church missions and fundraisers as well as for members of her family. She loved restoring family antiques and making their history known to others.On Thursday morning, March 3, 2011, at the age of 85, Marion was called from her earthly home while a patient at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital.She leaves to mourn: her children-Karen Smith & Glen Haraldson of Adrian, Earl & Donna Olson of New Brighton, Loran & Barb Olson of Jordan & Cheryl & Philip Schmieg also of Jordan; her grandchildren: Skeeter & Amanda Smith, Chad & Chris Schmieg, Melissa Olson, Scott Schmieg and Sara & Nic Borgmann; great grandchildren: KayCee, Lane & Josie Smith and Harley Jo, Jagger, Ricky Lu and Presley Sue Borgmann and her close friend Ann Stevens.Her parents Earl Summers and Leona Kaytuck, her husbands Nordan Olson and Joe Foley, and grandchildren: Tina Dooley and Mark Olson preceded her in death.
