Marguerite Birkey

Marguerite Lucille Birkey was born May 2, 1914 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Herman and Clara Iding. She passed away January 1, 2012 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.She was baptized into the Christian faith at Wauwatosa Presbyterian Church in Milwaukee on March 24, 1942.Marguerite grew up and attended school in Milwaukee graduating from North Division High School in 1932. She was very active in high school events, including competitive swimming where she had great success. On June 20, 1935 Marguerite was united in marriage to Vernon Birkey. To this union one son was born.Marguerite worked for a law office and a judge in the 1930?s. She then devoted her time to caring for their home and raising their son.She was a member of PEO, and First Congregational United Church of Christ in Montevideo. Marguerite enjoyed playing the organ, bridge, crossword puzzles, gardening, and staying active with church activities and volunteer work.Marguerite is survived by her son: Thomas (Doris Thompson) Birkey of Montevideo; grandchildren: Christopher (Shelly Cousin) Birkey of Beloit, Wisconsin; Stephen Birkey of Granite Falls; Peter (Julie) Birkey of North Easton, Massachusetts; Martha (Joseph Meyers) Jang of Naples, Florida; great grand children: Kelly Kiewel, Katherine Kiewel, Makenzie Birkey, Taylor Birkey, Abigail Birkey; former daughter-in-law: Mary Anne (Donald) Bennett of Burnsville; Doris? children: Diana (Michael) Stringari, Donna (Steven) Nelson, Susan (Josef) Yonkovich, Robert (Laura) Thompson; and numerous other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband: Vernon Birkey in 1976; parents: Herman and Clara Iding; brothers: Ralph Iding, Earl Iding, Orville Iding; sisters: Hazel Mossman, Muriel Schaffer.
