Margaret was born on December 18, 1939, in Montevideo Minnesota and passed away January 2, 2022, at the age of 82. She was married in 1958 to Paul Jr. and had five children over the next seven years. Margaret was joyfully consumed with what she enjoyed most – her family. Faithful perseverance describes Margaret as she responded to a myriad of life challenges. At age 26 she was confronted with the solo challenge of raising five children while also caring for her dying husband. Her faith carried her through many difficult, but joy-filled years as she attended college to better support the family, moved to a wheelchair accessible house, said goodbye to her husband in 1982, to her son in 1983, then much later to her grandson in 2014.
She chose to find the good that could come out of life’s greatest challenges. When Paul could no longer work, they found joy in raising the children. After her house blew away in the tornado, she used this as the opportunity to care for grandchildren fulltime. When her house burned down, she was given a room with a beautiful view in her new home. Her optimism was a wonder to witness and a role model for her children, family and friends.
Margaret was an avid reader her entire life. She started reading the newspaper at age eight and continued reading book after book through her life and even switched to e-books the last several years.
She is preceded in death by her husband Paul McRoden Jr., son Richard McRoden, grandson Ryan Brown, sister Barbara Nicholay and parents Francis and Pearl Bouska.
She is survived by loving children Susan Courtey, Ronald (RJ) McRoden, Debra Brown and Curtis McRoden; sisters Elaine Mirsch and Lois (Jim) Welling; grandchildren Quinn (Kathryn) McRoden, Caitlin McRoden, Meghan McRoden, Shane Brown and Josue Courtey; great-grandchildren Mason and Conor McRoden (Quinn)
Funeral mass was held on January 7, 2022, at All Saints Catholic Church. She will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Montevideo on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at 10a.m.
