Mae Saue

November 27, 1913 — November 2, 2008

Mae Nora Saue was born at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital on November 27, 1913 to Andrew and Rena Saue. She was baptized on March 4, 1914 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo and confirmed her faith at the same altar in April of 1928. She received her formal education in the Montevideo Schools. Mae worked in sales all of her working years. Her first job was at Henry Pitts? Jewelry Store which was in a corner area where the Klein Bank is now located. Mae sold jewelry at a time when young men were buying diamond rings for their fiancées before leaving for World War II. She worked there for two years before going on to a career with the Montgomery Ward Company in 1936. She held various positions in the Fashion Department including as a Fashion Sponsor for the District Area for 33 years. When the Wards store closed in 1968, she began working for Wilson's Men's Clothing Store and continued her career there for 14 years, retiring in 1982. In addition to her working career, Mae cared for her mother until Rena became a resident of Luther Haven Nursing Home in February of 1972.Mae was a lifetime member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo and enjoyed her involvement in various church and community organizations including the Degree of Honor, American Legion Auxiliary, Business and Professional Women's Club and the Women's Committee of the Chamber of Commerce. As a volunteer with the blood drive, she herself also donated and during the war accomplished the goal of Galloneer. She was a lifelong dedicated member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church being very active in her church circle, Sunday school teacher and a visitor with the Agape Group. She was a member of the Senior Advisory Committee and after retirement, she volunteered for 14 years at Luther Haven Nursing Home with the Bingo games. Mae moved to Brookside Manor and when her own health began to fail, she became a resident of the Clara City Care Center in 2003. At the age of 94 years, she was called from her earthly home on Thursday evening, October 30th. Those cherishing her memory are her niece Donna (and James) Meisner of Montevideo, and their children Holly Bassett, Tammy (and Tony) Limon, Corey (and Tara) Meisner; Holly's children: James, Ryan and Lillianna; Tammy's children: Isabella and Anthony; as well as extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Earl and 2 sisters: Ellen and Lillian. May her memory be blessed.
