Lyle Olson, 78, of Montevideo, passed away at his residence on May 22, 2024. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 25th at 11:00 am at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Lyle Alden Olson was born February 24, 1946, the son of Oscar & Myrtle (Bluflat) Olson in Montevideo. He grew up in rural Lac qui Parle County. He was baptized and confirmed at Lac qui Parle Lutheran Church. Lyle attended Lac qui Parle Country School and graduated from the Milan High School in 1964.
Lyle was united in marriage with Diane Toftness at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo on December 23, 1967. He continued his education at Concordia University, graduating in 1968. Following his graduation from Concordia Lyle enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard. He served in units in Dawson, Ortonville, Montevideo and in 1983, he served full time at Camp Ripley. He was honorably discharged in October of 1994, after serving his country for 24 years.
Over the years, Lyle began helping Dick Wing at the funeral home. He was always there to lend a helping hand to his neighbors and friends. He cherished time spent with family and hunting out at the farm.
He is survived by his children: Matthew (Allison) Olson of Maple Grove and Marcy (Steven) Brush of Morehead; grandchildren: Caleb Brush, Noah Brush (fiancé Jessica Vinger), Madison Olson and Mason Olson; in-laws: Dennis Toftness of Alexandria, Janet & Chip Worsech of Montevideo and Nancy & Jim Welch of Kimball; several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Diane in 2022, and his brother Allan in 1969.
