Lyle Lanes died on Sunday evening, November 2nd at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital at the age of 88 years.He was born on November 7, 1919 in Sparta Township to Harold B and Laura Lanes. Lyle was baptized on January 11, 1920 by Reverend Pederson in Black Oak Lake Lutheran Church and confirmed at the same altar on November 26, 1933 by the Reverend David Dale. His formal education was in District 15 near Wegdahl, later graduating with his Montevideo High School Class in 1938. Lyle took Mildred Erickson as his bride in Baxter Lutheran church on February 20, 1944. This union was blessed with five children. Lyle and Mildred farmed and raised their family until they opened Lanes Laundry & Superette on Black Oak Avenue in Montevideo. It was a local gathering spot for families using the washers and dryers and many folks stopped for grocery items, magazines and other sundry items. Lyle often said Â?If we donÂ?t have it, you donÂ?t need itÂ?. After they retired, Mary Lou and June were often seen behind the counter filling the customer needs. It was later sold and the current alternative school building occupies the space. In addition to his duties while making a living for his family, Lyle enjoyed hunting and playing cards. He especially enjoyed the time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his devoted wife Mildred, Lyle is survived by his children: Mary Lou Lanes and June (Cecil) Eisenlohr of Montevideo, Betty Funk of New Brighton, Rose (Del) Steiner of Billings, Montana, and Dean (Lynn) Lanes of St. Cloud; 9 grandchildren: Michelle (Kevin) Jorgenson, Jana (Michael) Strasburg, Tonya (Mike) Axford, Matthew Funk, Christa (Michael) Benedict, Lori (James) Gulbranson, Darin Lanes, Daniel Steiner and Andrea Lanes; and 6 great grandchildren: Zachary and Payton Jorgenson, J D and Max Gulbranson, Emma Strasburg and Carlee Axford; his sisters Hazel and Georgette and her husband Frank, and his brother George and Vivian. His sister-in-laws Dorothy Lanes, Alice (James) Wehrkamp, Marion (Orgean) Storlien; brother-in-law: Charles (Delores) Erickson. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Harold & Laura, his brother Earl Lanes and brother-in-law Mel Angell.
