Luverne Johnson was born on January 26, 1956, in Willmar, MN, the son of Verner and Elaine (Lietz) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Granite Falls Lutheran Church and grew up in Granite Falls, MN. He attended and graduated high school from Granite Falls in 1974 and continued his education at the Canby Area vocational Technical College in Canby, MN, specializing in auto mechanics.
Luverne worked for 30 years as a mechanic for Monson Motor’s in Granite Falls and following Monson’s closing, had been a mechanic at Meyer’s Repair & Towing in Granite Falls. He enjoyed motorcycling, tinkering and hanging out with friends. He was known for his good natured hospitality and his willingness to help anyone in need. He was a friend to all. Although he kept to himself, Luverne was always willing to share what he could with someone in need. He never expected anything in return and he loved his mother dearly. Those who truly knew him, knew him as a funny man who made sure to bring a smile to the face of someone feeling down. Luverne was not like many. He was simple, humble and had a heart of gold. A most admirable man who his daughter- Desiree, had the honor of calling ‘Father’.
Luverne was called from this life suddenly, following the onset of a rapidly progressing cancer. He passed away in the morning hours of May 17, 2016, while under Hospice care at the Granite Falls Municipal Hospital. He was 60 years of age. He is gone from us, but we have gained an angel.
