Luella Mae Skjefte was born June 7, 1931, in Granite Falls, Minnesota, to Ellmond Johnson and Olive (Ross) Johnson. She was the oldest of three siblings, a sister Jean and a brother George, who lived with their Dad and Grandparents in rural Granite Falls. She was baptized and confirmed in the Congregational Church and remained active in her Lutheran faith until her passing. She attended Granite Falls High School, was active in gymnastics, Girls Athletic Association, Photo Club and Library Club, and graduated in 1949. She married Donald Ray Skjefte in October 9, 1949, and had three children from this union'Nancy Lou, Ronald Wayne and Renee Edith. Lu and Donald were married 28 years. She married Robert Dallas Whittet in August 4, 1979, and remained married until his passing on October 6, 2007. The first twelve years of their marriage were spent on Norway Lake, after which they moved to Sacred Heart, Minnesota, where she resided at the time of her death. Lu and Bob stayed in touch with their high school classmates throughout their lives in addition to developing long-lasting relationships from Granite Falls, New London, Norway Lake, Echo, and Sacred Heart. They were ?snow birds? to New Mexico and Arizona. Together they enjoyed traveling with their camper to Idaho and Montana, bus tours to Mackinac Island, Branson, Winnipeg, Nashville and other places. Their favorite trip was to Alaska in the summer of 2006. After Bob's passing in 2007, Lu continued to take frequent bus tours to theaters, plays, shopping, and Mystery Tours, and a two week cruise through the Panama Canal. Through her life, Lu worked in retail sales and clerical positions until she retired. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Upper Sioux Community, active in Meals on Wheels, Ladies Aide and Circle. In her early years she enjoyed golfing and was a member of Granite Falls Archers Club. More recently, she was an avid crafter, enjoyed crocheting, sewing, hardanger, quilting, and gardening. She enjoyed entertaining for card club, weekly meetings at the ?Round Table?, and shopping for others at Herbergers. Her passion was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lu passed away on Monday, April 9, 2012, at the age of 80 years, ten months and two days. She is survived by her children: Nancy (John) Gagich of Chanhassen, Ronald (Janet) Skjefte of Granite Falls, and Renee (Paul) Sandquist of Eden Prairie; grandchildren: Courtney (Brooke) Whaylen, Bryan Gagich, Lauren Gagich, Tanya (Tom) Marr, Tracy (Jon) Berg, Jonathan Sandquist, Amy Sandquist, Sarah Sandquist and Michelle Sandquist; great grandchildren: Tiah Marr, Tyler Marr, Turner Marr, McKenna Berg, Morgan Berg and Mayson Berg; sister: Jean Mitchell of Granite Falls; brother: George Johnson of Cannon Falls,; Aunt Helen Stueland, Uncle J. Vern Johnson, the Posey family, Bob Whittet's children and many relatives and friends. Lu was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don, husband Bob and Freddie.
