On September 28, 1907, Luella Alvina Anna Bruss was the third child and first daughter born to Albert & Emilie (Bahn) Bruss on their farm in Posen Township near Echo, Minnesota. Luella was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at St. Luke's Missouri Synod Church at Posen. She attended country school District 67 and attended parochial school for two years. Luella grew up with six brothers and three sisters on the family farm by the shores of Lake Houston. She left home in 1927, to work four years at St. Mary's School for Girls in Faribault, Minnesota. Luella later worked as a domestic aid for distinguished families in the Minneapolis area and as a pastry chef in Juds Café in Ortonville. It was while working in Ortonville that she met and later married the local barber John Fred Saeger of Milbank, South Dakota. They married November 27, 1933, in Milbank, South Dakota. John, his two children Mavis Saeger age 9 and John "Jack" Saeger age 6 and his new bride Luella lived in Ortonville, Dalton, Nelson, Garfield and Alexandria before moving to their home August 1, 1944 at 280 8th Avenue in Granite Falls, Minnesota, where they lived until John's death in 1952. Luella continued to live in Granite Falls until she moved to the Clarkfield Care Center on March 4, 2005. One daughter Donna Lou Emily Saeger Hustad was born to this marriage, February 28, 1937. Luella's German immigrant grandparents & parents helped to establish and build the St. Luke's Church at Posen. The church and her Christian faith were foremost in her life. She was selflessly devoted to her family. On Sunday, March 9, 2008, Luella Bruss Saeger died peacefully surrounded by her family at the Clarkfield Care Center in Clarkfield, Minnesota at the age of 100 years, five months and eleven days. Luella will be greatly missed by her daughter Donna Saeger Hustad of Granite Falls, her beloved grandchildren: Blaine (Joyce) Hustad of Dawson & Kenton (Tiffany) Hustad of Mankato; great grandchildren: Bradley; Brittany; Trisha; Nicholas & Trevor; her step children: Mavis Saeger Norris of Newport, OR & Jack (June) Saeger of Litchfield and numerous step grandchildren; brothers: Orville Bruss of Bloomington; Leonard (Marjorie) Bruss of Echo and sister Adella Bruss Vogt of Plymouth. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Erwin, Walter, Albert, Delbert and sisters: Emily Prestegard and Erna Christianson.
