Luanne Knutson, 66, of Fargo, passed away on Tuesday January 31, 2023, at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo. Services will be held on Friday, February 10th at 1:00 pm at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held on Friday from 11:30 till the time of the service on Friday.
Luanne Marie (Kompelien) Knutson, 66, passed away peacefully January 31st, 2023, after her courageous battle with lung cancer. She was surrounded in love by her husband and daughter.
Luanne was born on November 30th, 1956, in Marshall, MN. She was the third of four children of Raymond and Mayme (Hanson) Kompelien. She was baptized on February 10th, 1957, in Cottonwood. Luanne shared fond memories of tagging along with her dad on the farm, doing chores and engaging in deep discussion around her desire for a pony as a young girl.
As Luanne navigated her childhood, adolescence and adult years, a few hopes for her future were unwavering: a close relationship with God, her desire to be a mother and to marry and share a life with her husband. Luanne wed Greg Myron Knutson on April 19th, 1980, and would welcome their daughter, Jessica Rae nearly two years later. They spent over half of their marriage living in Wood Lake, before moving to Fargo to be near their daughter’s family.
Luanne loved traveling, crisp fall days, going for afternoon drives with her husband to see the leaves change colors and anything that had to do with her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. She became an avid sports/activates fan: Sunday afternoon football, high school basketball games, dance recitals/competitions, speech meets, cross country races and countless days, evenings and weekends spent at the baseball field and any other activity her grandkids found fun and exciting, she was first in line to attend (and was likely to be one of the louder spectators in the crowd). You could pick her smile out of a crowded room and recognize her laugh from a mile away. The beautiful memories she has given those who have loved her will forever be cherished.
Luanne was a loving, compassionate and selfless wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was happiest when surrounded by family. Her most treasured moments and memories included those closest to her, where there was no doubt an abundance of laughter and love.
Luanne is survived by her husband Greg Knutson of Fargo, ND, daughter Jessica (Chad) Slyter of Fargo, ND, her brother Mike (Karen) Kompelien & family, Bruce (Elaine) Kompelien & family, and sister Lori (Tom) O’Connor & family. She is also survived by her four grandchildren: Avery, Greyson, Abby & Olivia. She is preceded in death by her parents, aunts and uncles.
