Louie Bernard Hinrichs was born March 16, 1924, the son of Ben & Lucy (Getting) Hinrichs in Adrian, Minnesota. He was baptized in the Reformed Church in Little Rock and confirmed at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. He attended country school. Louie enlisted in the United State Marine Corps in 1943 and served in the 5th Marine Division. After training at Camp Pendleton, he fought on Iwo Jima for the American Flag raising as well as Nagasaki and Hiroshima, Japan. He was honorably discharged as Corporal in 1946. Louie was united in marriage to Elaine Gerdes on February 10, 1948, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Louie farmed in the Clara City area for many years. In 1967, he started Hinrichs Charolais. In 1978, he suffered a farm accident and retired from farming in 1985. He enjoyed raising beef cattle and horses, going to threshing bees and parades with his horses and giving sleigh rides.
Louie passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at the Prairie Senior Cottages in Willmar. He was 93 years of age.
He is survived by his children: Larry (Eunice) of Sunburg; James (Victoria) of Clara City; Roger of Clearwater and Lisa (John) Russell of Sauk Rapids; 7 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; two sisters Anna Marie Seeman of Clara City & Dorothy (Ronnie) Gerdes of Cross Lake; brother Fred (Joan) Asche of Mantorville; sister-in-law Elva Hinrichs of Clara City and several extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1994, son Steven in 1974, grandson Scott in 1983 and son-in-law Jason Jacoby in 2012, two sisters: Alice Zimmer and Cleo Theesen and one brother Wilbert.
