Lois Katherine Schulte was born October 17, 1936 in Wabasso, MN to Ben & Lorene Pohlen. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and received her education in Minneota, graduating with the class of 1955. On July 27, 1957 she was united in marriage to Gerald Tholkes and they had 4 children together. They were married for 22 years until his passing in 1979. On April 26, 1986 she was united in marriage to John Schulte and shared 13 years of marriage until his passing in 1999. Lois was a long time resident of Granite Falls where she lived from 1964 to 1986. Lois graduated from beautician school and she owned and operated Granite Beauty Shop for 21 years. She enjoyed her work and had many regular customers she called friends. Lois liked to listen to country music, dance and get together with family for celebrations. She loved Christmas time at her house with all the kids and made the best popcorn balls. She liked her diet coke, ice cream, chocolates, doing yard work and a clean house. Lois loved to shop and always dressed with style. She always wanted to give people a laugh and a smile. Lois passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Seasons Hospice House in Redwood Falls. She is survived by 4 children: Alan (Monaliza) Tholkes of Prior Lake, Lori (Kevin) Markgraf of Granite Falls, Todd (Susan) Tholkes of Redwood Falls and Lisa Beringer of Waconia; 10 grandchildren: Abbie, Genesis, Alexandra, Luke Tholkes of Prior Lake, Jolene (Dan) Fromm of Fort Ripley, Ashley Markgraf(Jeff Thomsen) of Hutchinson, Morgan, Madison, Hunter Tholkes of Redwood Falls, Tony Beringer of Italy; 4 great grandchildren, Ayva Wilkening, Ruby Fromm, Aiden and Emmy Thomsen; 7 brothers and sisters, Eunice Haugen, Jerry Pohlen, Benny (Sue) Pohlen, Diane (Jim) Jelen, Doug (Linda) Pohlen, Mike (Cecelia) Pohlen, Margene (Bernie) Claeys and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents Ben and Lorene Pohlen, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Gerald Tholkes and John Schulte, 2 sisters Phyllis Vanwatermulen and Deloris Schmidt, an infant brother Thomas Pohlen, 2 brothers-in-law, Ronnie Vanwatermulen, Larry Haugen, 1 sister-in-law, Linda Pohlen and a niece Jennifer Pohlen. Lois had a strong belief in God and her faith in Christ will bring her home. We will truly miss her smile and laughter, though she's up there but in our hearts she will always stay, loved and remembered every day.
