Linda Valerie (Halvorson) Schindele, a cherished member of the Granite Falls community, passed away on June 4, 2024. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and love.
Linda was known for her warm smile, unwavering support, and dedication to her family. Her nurturing spirit touched the lives of many, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Born on January 4, 1943, in Granite Falls, MN to Lloyd and Virginia (Olson) Halvorson in the midst of a blizzard; she was welcomed by the entire community as the first baby of the year.
She met the love of her life; George Schindele, after completing her restaurant shift. Dad pulled up on his Indian motorcycle and offered the girls a ride on his bike. Mom, being the only one wearing pants, gleefully hopped on and the rest is history. Their love brought two amazing boys, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild into the world.
Mom was a phenomenal cook and baker. Her pies and cookies were top notch and her specialty soups kept people coming back to the casino over and over. Often people would say mom's soups were the best they had ever eaten. Mom was proud to be elected to the Granite Falls Bowling Hall of Fame. Mom was also an avid collector of music boxes; with a collection numbering over 175 pieces.
She is survived by her loving sons and daughters-in-law, John and Candy of Ely, Brian and Lori of Granite Falls, and her pride and joy, grandchildren Courtney (and Zach), Lucas, Nicholas, and great granddaughter Brynlee. She also leaves behind her brothers, Mike, Verle (Dot), and Dean (Joy), as well as several other family members and friends.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, grandson John O'Neal, her husband, and brother Dennis.
Family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to those that assisted mom in her final years and days: Living at Home Block Nurse program, Yellow Medicine County social workers, Avera@Home nurses and homemakers, Neighbor's United Food Shelf, Avera Granite Falls Care Center, and Avera Hospice.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, June 7th from 5-7pm at Wing Bain Funeral Home, Granite Falls.
Mom's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her. May she rest in peace.
