LilyMae Sietsema Kleene, 95, was born in Renville County near Danube, MN, on May 6, 1920, to Dow and Minnie Hendricks Sietsema. She passed away at the Clara City Care Center on November 1, 2015. She was baptized on July 4, 1920 at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church near Renville. She attended country schools and graduated from Clara City High School in 1938. She worked as a hairdresser in Sacred Heart until marrying Leonard Kleene on April 27, 1943. They moved to the Kleene family farm west of Clara City where they farmed and raised their family. In 1972, they moved into Clara City. LilyMae was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she was very active and taught four year old children in Sunday school for nearly thirty years.
For the past five years, she has been a resident of the Clara City Care Center. She has been loved by the staff and residents alike, because of her kind and generous personality. She has participated in all activities and has been the person to welcome new residents and offer comfort to the sick.
She is survived by her children, Gerald (Karen) of Maynard, MN; Phyllis (Peter McMahon), Brooklyn Park, MN; Marvin, Pullman, WA; nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Luella Bruns of Renville and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, in 2005; her parents, her brothers, Herman, Delos, and Daniel, also her daughter-in-law Charlotte.
