Leora Golda, age 86, of Montevideo, Minnesota and formerly of Heron Lake, Minnesota passed away Friday, March 15, 2024 at CCM Health in Montevideo. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Heron Lake Methodist Church in Heron Lake. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Heron Lake.
Leora Ann (Nieuwendorp) Golda was born March 7, 1938 in Sheldon, Iowa, to Jake and Anna (DeJong) Nieuwendorp. She was baptized at First Reformed Church on April 11, 1938 in Sheldon. Leora grew up with her nine siblings and went to school in Sheldon.
Leora was united in marriage to James Golda on September 15, 1962 in Heron Lake, Minnesota, and were married for almost 62 years. The couple made their home in Heron Lake and were blessed with four children. Together they ran the newspaper in Heron Lake and did printing for the locals. Leora did daycare and also drove school bus.
In 1985, Leora and Jim moved to Bagley, Minnesota and returned to Heron Lake in 2003. In 2019, they moved to Montevideo, Minnesota and for the last year Leora has been a resident at Luther Haven Nursing Home.
Leora was known as an excellent baker and was very creative doing coloring, painting, sewing and quilting. She enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling with her family and loved having coffee with friends. Leora’s greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandson.
Leora is survived by her husband, James Golda of Montevideo; two daughter, Darla (Mark) Miles of Maumee, OH, Toni (Todd) Homan of Montevideo; son, Timothy (Korinne) Golda of Fulda; grandchildren, Zane (Heaven) Brunk, Kristin Schultz, Isaiah Homan, Kate Wagner, Emma Golda, Breanna Golda, Zach Golda; great grandchildren, Faith Brunk, Anna Brunk, Hallie Brunk, Ava Brunk, Cameron Wagner, Griffin Wagner; great, great grandson, Dallas Dunbar; sister, Gladys VanVeldhuizen; brother, Marvin Nieuwendorp; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Leora is preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Anna Nieuwendorp; son, Rick Golda; siblings, Robert, James, Willard, Thelma, Carolyn and infant twin brother and sister.
