Leonard Lewis Daniels was born to Louis & Julia Daniels on December 24, 1925, in Germania Township, Todd County. He attended a one room school house in Germania Township until the 8th grade. On January 16, 1945, Leonard was inducted into the United States Army. He served in the Philippines, Japan and was in the Military Police in Korea. Leonard was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan. On October 8, 1946, he was honorably discharged. He was a member of the Clarissa American Legion for 61 years. After his discharge, Leonard returned to Staples and farmed with his father and brother. Upon his return to Staples, Leonard & his brother built a traveling sawmill and went to various locations for work.On December 28, 1968, he was united in marriage to Anna Marie Schulte at St. Clara Catholic Church. They resided from 1968 to 1989 in Willmar, Bertha & Staples and moved to Clara City in 1990. During his active years, Leonard farmed and did carpentry work at the Community Haus Apartments in Clara City. In 2005, after the death of his wife, Anna Marie, Leonard moved in with his step son Bob, for a year and a half. In 2007, he was admitted to the Clara City Care Center. Leonard was a faithful member of St. Clara Catholic Church. He loved hunting, fishing & woodworking, but above all Leonard loved being with his family.Leonard passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2011, at the Clara City Care Center. He was 85 years of age.Leonard is survived by his step children: Doug (Linda) Schulte of Gaylord; Janice (Wayne) Tammen of Willmar and Robert Schulte of Clara City; sisters-in-law Delores Daniels of Duluth and Francis Larson of Clara City; two nieces: Lila (Virgil) Boehland of Duluth and Denise Schwartz of Vernen Center; step grandchildren: Greta (Kevin) Marti; Bill (Stephanie) Schulte; Brenda Schulte (Labrado) Vazquez; Scott (Marife) Tammen & Steven (fiancé Emily) Tammen and eleven step great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 37 years, Anna Marie, step son John Schulte and one brother George Daniels.
