Leona Ann Janssen was born October 19, 1926, the daughter of Frank & Elsie (Priebe) Rhode in Louriston Township, Chippewa County. She attended St. Clara Catholic School and graduated from the Maynard High School in 1944.
Leona was united in marriage to Harvey Janssen on October 17, 1953, in Clara City. Together they farmed in the Maynard area, retiring in 1985. Leona moved to town in 2010, where she was very active at Prairie Park Place. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary since 1961, the DAV Auxiliary, and the 40 & 8 Auxiliary. She was also an active member of St Clara Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Leona passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2015, at the Rice Memorial Hospital. She was 88 years of age.
She is survived by her two sons: Richard (Julie) of New London and Paul (Julie) of Maynard; seven grandchildren: Katherine (David) Zimmer; Michael (Lisa) Janssen; Timothy (Vicky) Janssen; Kristie (Patrick) Nelson; Becky Janssen (Shawn Wiler); Jason (Angie) Janssen and Stacy (Matt) Beto; 21 great grandchildren; one sister Clara Kelly of Robinsdale and extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Gary, husband Harvey; three great granddaughters: Bobbi Jo Wiler, Samantha Ann Wiler and Peyton Rose Janssen; three brothers: Art, Leonard and George Rhode, sister Marie Jaenisch and two siblings in infancy Harvey and Leslie.
