Lawrance "Butch" Garman

July 25, 1941 — July 14, 2014

Lawrance LeRoy ‘Butch’ Garman was born on July 25, 1941, in Verdi Township near Lincoln, MN. He attended schools in Vesta, Balaton, Russell, Huntington Beach, CA, Moorhead,, Marshall, and the Vo-Tec in Canby, (for mechanics).
Butch served his country in the United States Navy, entering active duty on Feb. 12, 1959 and receiving his honorable discharge on March 9, 1961. He was united in marriage to Marcene Joy Cleveland on May 3, 1974, in Brookings, SD. Butch was employed as a truck driver most of his adult life, ending his trucking career driving for Municipal Castings in 2011.
Butch loved motorcycling and at one time, was a member of the Roaring Lyons Motorcycle Club in Amiret, MN. He could fix, or repair anything and enjoyed tinkering, building, spending time with his family and making new friends. Butch was an endearing man, able to converse with anyone about anything and was quick to make new friends. He was a member of the American Legion and dreamed of becoming a member of the American Legion Riders. Sadly, his deteriorating health prevented him from doing this.
Surrounded by his loving family, Butch passed away peacefully at his residence in the evening hours of Monday July 14,2014, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 72 years of age.
He is survived by his loving wife Marcene of Montevideo, MN; his children Mary Garman (& fiance’ Paul Rice) of Montevideo, MN, Ron Dirckx (& fiance’ Renee Johnson) of Montevideo, MN and Michael (& Sara) Dirckx also of Montevideo; 7 grandchildren- Kayla Moen, Cameron Moen , Jacklyn Moen, Samantha Dirckx, Ronald David Dirckx, Jr., Randi Dirckx and Xavier Dirckx; 6 great grandchildren and numerous aunts, nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother Frances Garrow; his father Gus Garman; his uncle Joe Garrow and 5 aunts- Mary Ann, Grace, Ruth, Victoria & Alma.
