Larry Herbert Nelson, 65, of Granite Falls died at his home, surrounded by his family on Sunday, October 25. He was born on July 18, 1944 to Herbert and Vernette Nelson in Granite Falls, MN. He graduated from Granite Falls High School. On August 22, 1964 he married Jan Johnson. Larry retired from Northern States Power (Xcel Energy) after 35 years of service. For forty years, he owned a small chainsaw shop, Nelson Sales & Service. Larry was an avid fisherman; his favorite location to fish was the Missouri River in South Dakota. He loved traveling to the beautiful lakes of Canada. Larry also enjoyed deer hunting, especially with his daughters and oldest granddaughter, Shantay. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is survived by his wife, Jan of 45 years, his mother, Vernette Nelson, five children; Anita (Dean) Hinrichs, Andrea (Rick) Saatzer, Patrick (Mindy) Nelson, Scott (Sarah) Nelson, and Amanda Ross; as well as being blessed with thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren ? Colton, Corey, Jeremy, Jill, Shantay, Austin, Jayda, Brayden, Taylor, Cody, Landon, Anisty & Autumn, and great grandchildren Logan & Caydence. He was preceded in death by his father, Herb, and sister; Joan.
