LaGrant I Velde was born June 21, 1921, in Granite Falls, Minnesota, the son of Faltin and Ellen (Foien) Velde. He passed away Wednesday April 20, 2016 at the age of 94 at Riverside assisted living in Granite Falls.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. LaGrant graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1939.
On November 23, 1941, LaGrant was united in marriage to Beatrice Pederson at Rock Valle Lutheran Church. To this union four children were born. A lifelong farmer, he was able to raise his family on the same farm he grew up on.
LaGrant’s faith was evident in everything he did, whether it was church committees, Sunday school superintendent, teaching Sunday school, being active in farmers union, NFO, or assisting the county assessor, he was always fair and honest.
He enjoyed playing pool, golfing, bowling, and had a knack for telling jokes. He and Bea were able to spend 27 winters in Alamo, Texas, where they had many dear friends.
LaGrant is survived by his son: David (Kathy) Velde of Granite Falls; daughters: Connie (Roger) Hickman of Inver Grove Heights and Patricia Pederson of San Antonio, Texas: 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
