Knute Otis Kvistad, Jr. was born in Echo, Minnesota, on March 9, 1919, to Knute and Carrie (Stokke) Kvistad. Known as “Budd,” Knute died on November 3, 2016, at the Granite Falls Manor in Granite Falls, Minnesota.
Knute graduated from Echo High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy and was a decorated World War II veteran. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and three additional medals of distinction.
Knute married Donna Kinney in 1944. They had three children, Niles, Gregg, and Jane. The family moved to St. Cloud, Minnesota, where Knute was a successful business owner.
Donna Kvistad passed away in 1999. Knute moved to the Granite Falls Manor in 2010. He was welcomed back to the area by Alice Kvistad, his sister-in-law, and several loving nieces and nephews. The caring and compassionate staff at the Manor created a new home for him.
Knute is also preceded in death by his parents, sister Jeanette, and brothers Owen, Rueben, and John.
He is survived by his children, Niles of San Francisco, CA, Gregg of Denver, CO, and Jane of Seattle, WA.
