Kent Earl Root was born on January 26, 1930, in Montevideo, the only son of Earl Wilber & Helen Clara Root. The family lived in Smith Addition until Kent was six years old. The family lived in several areas as his parents aged and Kent cared for them until their passing. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War Period from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1953. He enjoyed hunting in his younger days, fishing and a good game of pinnacle with friends was always welcome.Kent was well known in the Montevideo community for his flooring installation. He began his career with Nerison Furniture Store on Main Street, continued with Bang Floor Covering and Don Schutz at the Homestore before retiring in 1992. He was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church in Montevideo, Masons, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Cooties and the American Legion.Kent passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at the Luther Haven Nursing Home. He was 82 years of age. He was preceded in death by his parents and will be laid to rest beside them at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.He is survived by extended family as well as his many dear friends.
