Kent Groothuis

Kent Edward Groothuis was born August 26, 1943, the fifth child of John & Inez Groothuis. He was baptized on May 29, 1949 and confirmed at Rosewood Methodist Church. He went to District #59 thru the 7th grade and then attended the Montevideo High School.Kent was united in marriage to Geraldine Eddy on June 15, 1962, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Three children were born to this union: Jodi, Julie and Jeffery. He worked for Clark Irrigation for five years and then Duininck Brothers for over thirty years. Kent passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2008, at the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital. He was 65 years old. He is survived by his wife Geraldine; daughters: Jodi (Lon) Bratland of Tea, South Dakota and Julie Groothuis (fiancé Chris Pierson) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; son Jeffery (Elizabeth) Groothuis of Mankato; four grandchildren: Hope and Levi Bratland and Jeanne and Janell Groothuis; two brothers: Dennis (Beverly) Groothuis of Montevideo and Darrell (Jeanine) Groothuis of Colton, California; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, John in 1958, and Inez in 2005; step father Harry Rodeberg in 1998, and two sisters: Beverly Aller in 1996, and Delores Groothuis in 1932.
