Kem Black, age 64, of Sacred Heart, died Monday, May 23, 2022 at the Granite Falls Hospital.
Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Granite Falls with visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A luncheon will follow at the Granite Falls American Legion.
Kem Clifford Black was born on January 17, 1958, in Pasadena, California, to Neil and RoseDelle (Peterson) Black. He moved with his family to Granite Falls in 1971 when he was young and attended school there.
After high school, Kem worked in sales and in 1987 he began working for Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative. Most recently Kem worked in the control room overseeing many areas, but with over 34 years working there he held many different job titles thru the years.
Kem met Joyce Willis in 1986 and treated her girls as if they were his. The couple loved doing life together and outside of work, you rarely saw one without the other. On St. Patrick’s Day in 1999, Kem and Joyce were married. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and camping. Kem loved to party and always loved going to Sturgis and also riding the dunes in California. He could surf, always up for an adventure and a Budweiser. Kem had a hollow leg for Mexican food. He will be remembered as a fierce protector of those he loved.
Kem is survived by his wife, Joyce Black of Sacred Heart; daughters, Sabrina Hagen and Katrina Penske; grandchildren, Cheyenne Homes, Ariel Hagen, Zandra Hagen, Tristan Young, Logan Young, Natya Rash, Dominic Rash; sisters, Kari (Chuck) Twedt, Kelly (Richard) Schulte; father-in-law, Connel Willis; as well as other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Neil Black, mother, Rose Andert; step-father, Butch Andert; infant brother, Kal Richard; nephew, Dustin Twedt.
