Kati Luschen, 45, of Montevideo, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024, at her home of a pulmonary embolism. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 10:30 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5 to 7:00 pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Kati Marie Luschen was born May 19, 1979, the daughter of Bill and Rita (Jacobs) Luschen, in Montevideo. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Clara Catholic Church. She graduated from MACCRAY High School with the Class of 1997.
Kati continued her education at Moorhead State University and received a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 2001. Upon graduation, she taught at St. Anne’s Parochial School in Wabasso for four years. Kati then decided to continue her education and attended St. Cloud State where she received her Master’s Degree in Special Education in 2007. Upon completion of her masters, Kati continued her education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and worked towards her PHD in Special Education for 3 years. In 2010, she accepted a job in the Montevideo Schools as a Special Education teacher. While teaching, she furthered her education through St. Catherine University and obtained an Autism Licensure.
Kati was a very devoted teacher and always had a couple of projects going on at home related to “her” kids at school. She was a board member of the Chippewa Enterprise Inc and treasurer for the Education Association for Montevideo Schools. Kati was an avid baseball fan and had visited every major league baseball stadium in the country. She loved to travel in the United States and Europe. She enjoyed summer fishing trips to Lake of the Woods in Canada with family. If she was in a boat, she had a fishing rod in her hand. She was also very involved with her nephews and was always there to lend a helping hand or get them to where they needed to be.
Kati is survived by her parents Bill & Rita Luschen, siblings: Kurt (Breana) Luschen and Kerri (Jason) Schuler all of Maynard; three nephews: Landon, Brody, and Dawson Schuler; her grandmother June Jacobs of Madelia; and extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Perry Jacobs and Gordon & Betty Luschen.
