Kathryn Barber, age 62, of Montevideo, Minnesota passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at her home. A Celebration of Life will be held on her birthday in 2021.
Kathryn Lee Hegna was born on April 28, 1958 in Granite Falls, Minnesota to Arnold and Virginia (Pederson) Hegna. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Granite Falls. Kathryn attended school and graduated from the Granite Falls High School in 1976. She then moved to Willmar where she made lifelong friends.
Kathryn married Steven Barber on May 17, 1985 in Watertown, South Dakota. The couple were blessed with two daughters, Cassandra and Carline. Kathryn was a great mom and loved her girls so very much, she never missed one of their sporting events and was by far the loudest fan in attendance.
Kathryn worked various jobs when she moved back to the Granite Falls area including, Carl’s Bakery, manager of Riverview Apartments, delivered Sunday newspapers and worked at the Bingo hall. She was a very hard worker often joggling multiple jobs at a time all the while raising her family.
Kathryn enjoyed writing poetry and had a great sense of humor. Family meant everything to Kathy, she loved making her family Christmas gifts and the annual family trips to stay at a resort were among her greatest memories. She had a heart of gold and would do anything to help someone in need, it was this giving nature that even extended to donating to St. Jude and she would sponsor a child. Her door was always open to anyone, feeding and providing a safe place for others. Kathryn will be remembered for her kind and compassionate spirit.
Kathryn is survived by her daughters, Cassandra Barber(Fiance Josh Raveling) of Montevideo, Carline (special friend, Kevin Pendleton) Barber of Duluth; grandchildren, Chloe Barber, Michael IronHeart, Aurora IronHeart; children by choice, Kayla Hall, Gage Smith, Demi Smith, Dylan Smith; sisters, Debbie Hegna of Clarkfield, Julie (Dave) Halvorson of Montevideo, Karry (special friend, Roger Bendickson) Johnson of Boyd, Pam (Kyle) Weber, Amy (Todd) Tennis of Clarkfield; boyfriend, Nathan Smith of Montevideo; as well as other relatives and friends.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Virginia Hegna; infant brother, Alan Hegna.
