(Frances) Kathleen Riordan was born on October 18, 1924, in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Josephine (Shea) Riordan. She enjoyed rural life with her parents and brothers, Bob and Dick. Kathleen attended Jordan Consolidated School through 12th grade and graduated in 1942. While in high school Kathleen played basketball and in her senior year, her team won first place in their conference. Following high school, Kathleen pursued her dream of becoming a nurse and attended St. Anthony School of Nursing in Carroll, Iowa. Graduating as a registered nurse in 1945, she began her career at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Iowa.
On January 14, 1947, she was united in marriage to Melvin Reinhart at Sacred Heart Church in Boone, Iowa. They were blessed with five children: Tom, (twins) Dave & Don, Diane, and Mary.
Kathleen and Melvin lived on a farm near Breda, Iowa. Kathleen continued nursing, specializing in obstetrics and later worked as Director of Nursing at the Carroll Manor. They were an active couple and enjoyed ballroom dancing. In 1976 she and Melvin moved to Carroll, Iowa, where Kathleen retired in 1980. Kathleen and Melvin moved to Granite Falls, Minnesota, in 1983 and enjoyed the small town life. They joined St. Andrew Catholic Church and Kathleen was an active member in the Women’s Circle and the Hospital Auxiliary.
Kathleen was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and reading. Early in retirement Kathleen enjoyed golfing, taking walks and fishing. Throughout her life, Kathleen was very proud of her completely Irish heritage.
Kathleen moved to Granite Ridge in Granite Falls, Minnesota, in 2009 and relocated to St. Therese SW Assisted Living Facility in Hopkins, Minnesota, in 2011.
On Wednesday morning, August 19, 2015, Kathleen was called from this life while at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. She was 90 years of age.
Surviving family include her children – Tom Reinhart of Panora, Iowa; Dave (& Margaret) Reinhart of Guthrie Center, Iowa; Don (& Rhonda) Reinhart of Guthrie Center, Iowa; Diane (& Ron) Fagen of Granite Falls, Minnesota; and Mary (& Dick) Kollen of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; her sisters-in-law – Lois (& Vernon) Boes of Minnetonka, Minnesota, and Jean (& Urban) Knobbe of Carroll, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Kathleen in death were her parents, a sister-Mary Eileen- in infancy, two brothers- Bob and Dick Riordan, her husband, Melvin in 2009, and daughter-in-law, Becky in 2011.
