IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, MEMORIALS ARE PREFERRED.
Kathleen Louise Peterson was born on January 21, 1952, in Granite Falls, MN, the daughter of Gordon and Pat (Burke) Phipps. She was baptized and confirmed at Granite Falls Lutheran Church and graduated from Granite Falls High School. She became Catholic later in life.
Kathy (Kee-Kee) married the love of her life, David Peterson, on August 30, 1968 and this union was blessed with two children. Together they lived in Granite Falls. Kathy had a couple jobs during her lifetime, mainly committed to her job as office manager at the rock quarry, known as Green Co. when she started there at age 17, working for her father who managed the company.
Kathy was well known for her never-ending giving of herself, always putting others first, volunteering for numerous things including Cub Scouts, Ambulance, any and all decorating from homecoming and prom at the high school, church decorating, weddings, Christmas, and any other holiday. Her goal was to make others happy, which she did. It is hard to find Kathy in pictures because she was always the photographer, “wait, one more picture” she would say. Or if she was forced to be in the picture, she would hide behind someone else. Kathy could never give up a good sale and even garage sales when they spent time at the cabin. She unconditionally loved her family, especially the love of her life, David (Dee-Dee). And we can’t forget her furry friends (dogs) because she treated them like the kids. They were Fritz, then Jobbi and then Maggi. She is remembered by her good nature and saying, “I’m still a good person”. And those that know her well, knew of her crazy love for Elvis and her favorite color was purple.
Kathy had worked at the quarry for 35 years before she was forced to retire early because of her debilitating disease in 2005. David took care of Kathy at home and everyone knows he is his own angel in the way he treated Kathy like a queen until the very end.
Kathy passed away on December 1, 2015, from dementia at the age of 63. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Pat Phipps, in laws Harland and Ruby Peterson.
Kathy is survived by her husband David of Granite Falls, sons Robbi (Nichole) of Yorkville, IL, Rorri (Pam) of Waite Park, MN; grandchildren Hunter, Morgan, Brianna, Taylor, Isabella, and Jayden, sisters Karen (Doug) Henning of Granite Falls, Karla (Scott) Bjorndal of Granite Falls, sisters-in-law Dee Paul of Bloomington, Marti (Arnie) Mohrman of Maynard, brother-in-law LeRoy (Jan) Peterson of Granite Falls, and several nieces and nephews.
