Kathleen Grove passed away Saturday, May 23rd at the Granite Falls Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 1st at 10:30am at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.
Kathleen (Kathy) Grove of Granite Falls, MN and formerly of Maynard, MN passed away peacefully at the age of 74 of natural causes in Granite Health Care Center on May 23, 2020.
Kathy was born on September 7th, 1945 to Anthony and Evelyn Freid in Granite Falls Hospital. She was baptized and confirmed in Saint Clara Catholic Church in Clara City, MN. After graduating from Maynard High School, she worked as an extremely successful Avon Sales Representative. During her many years as an “Avon Lady” she won two trips to Hawaii, three cruises, and a shiny, new, red car. She also worked at Hardees, Subway, the Hampton Hospital, and Project Turnabout as a Mental Health Technician while simultaneously running the craft department for art therapy.
In 1969 she met Dorian Grove at Len’s Supper Club in Montevideo, MN. Kathy and Dorian were married on June 6th, 1970 at Saint Clara’s Catholic Church in Clara City. Kathy and Dorian lived in Granite Falls where they raised their children. After their children left the nest, they moved to Hampton, IA for Dorian’s work and lived there for two years. When Dorian was able to secure a position back in Granite Falls, they returned to the same home that they owned in Granite Falls.
Kathy enjoyed doing many crafts, including: sewing, Swedish weaving, making table runners, dream catchers, and lace angels. Kathy loved playing a nice game of cards and was a fierce competitor. Kathy loved to win! Kathy enjoyed going on cruises, loved Hawaii, and never met a Napa Valley wine tasting that she didn’t like. Kathy loved to go out to eat with friends and family and had a special place in her heart for Red Lobster.
Kathy is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Dorian Grove; her son Stephen (Nicola) Grove of Saint Johns, FL, her daughter, Jen (Mike) Grossinger of Lakeville, MN; eight grandchildren: Adam, Alexander, Dante, Dejon, Darrien, Kalani Grove and Josephine and Camden Grossinger; her sister, Marcia (Cecil) Tripp of Blaine, MN; her nephews and nieces, Michael (Marlene) Tripp of Blaine, MN, Ronald (Shelly) Tripp of White Bear Lake, MN, Karla Tripp of Blaine, MN, and Susan (Larry) Goettl of Prior Lake, MN.
Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Evelyn Freid, and her brother, Stephen Freid.
Many thanks to those who sent flowers and cards, kept Dorian fed with an amazing meal train, and showed up to visit Kathy through the nursing home window during her health struggles. Thank you to the hospice team and the many nurses, nurses aids, and techs that cared for Kathy in her final days.
A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held at the Granite Falls Lutheran Church at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 1st, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, refreshments will be served at the Grove residence for all who feel comfortable. Accommodations will be made to ensure that people can maintain social distance while still coming together for fellowship.
