Katherine Cole was born September 18, 1920, the daughter of George & Sophie Kreshka in Sundown, Manitoba. She attended country school through the 8th grade and moved to Minneapolis where she graduated from the Minnehaha Academy in 1940. She worked for Munsingwear in Minneapolis and then moved with her family to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania where she was employed with Bethlehem Steel.Katherine was united in marriage to Arvid Cole on November 24, 1945, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Following their marriage they resided in several places and later bought their farm in Wood Lake Township. They lived on the farm for 31 years and retired to Granite Falls in November of 1984. She held various jobs: clerk at Johnson's Grocery in Wood Lake, bookkeeper at Tri-County Co-op, and clerk at Ben Franklin in Granite Falls. She also found time to raise a family and help on the farm. Katherine enjoyed gardening, birds, nature and music. She sang in the choir at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church and also with the ladies sextet "Harmonettes". She loved crocheting, knitting, embroidery, cooking, baking and always sent guests home with a bag of cookies or leftovers from the meal or even garden produce. She was very generous and giving. Katherine played tennis in her early years and enjoyed watching her granddaughter Susan play. She was faithful in attending the grandkids? school events and loved to study Scripture.Katherine passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2010, at the Valin Senior Care in Montevideo. She was 89 years of age.She is survived by her children: Wesley (Janette) Cole of Wood Lake and Dianne (Guy) Stevermer of Sacred Heart; grandchildren: Emily Cole and special friend Robb Jones of Richmond, Virginia; Richard (Anahita) Cole of Fergus Falls; Nathan Cole of Hanley Falls; Danielle (Allen) Chrisman of Wood Lake; and Susan Turner of Crookston; great grandchildren: Jaden & Katie Halterman; Ava Chrisman; Gabriela Cole; Montgomery Cole and Evangeline Cole; three sisters: Dora Traylor of Golden Valley; Helen Olson of Elk River and Rose Nelson of Green Valley, Arizona; four sisters-in-law: Ardell Redetzke of Willmar; Kathleen Stokesbary of Redwood Falls; Edith Timm of Bend, Oregon; and Zelda Cole of Lakeville; and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arvid in 2004; six brothers: William, John, Alex, Waldemar, George Jr., and Paul Kreshka; and three sisters: Olga Nelson, Mary Thorsfeldt, and Valemina Salisbury.
