Katelyn Faith Pauling was born on September 19, 2006 in Willmar, MN to Jeremy and Kristy (Kafka) Pauling and big sisters Kaylee and Kassey. She was baptized and attended Sunday School at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Katelyn attended Little Lambs Pre-school, Small World Nursery School and Sanford and Ramsey elementary schools.
Katelyn was the best baby sister ever, that shared many happy memories with her family. She was a very fashionable little girl, that loved sparkly, bright colored and funky outfits as well as make-up. Her sisters recall her turning their faces into master pieces using a variety of cosmetics including markers from time to time and their crazy hair styles could always get her to smile and giggle.
As a young toddler Katelyn was always surprising everyone with her mischievous acts. A few examples that come to mind are when Katelyn and her sisters would put a mattress on the floor and jump from the top bunk and land on the mattress (that may have been the reason Kristy and Jeremy got rid of their bunk beds). Katelyn was sneaky too. When the girls would play a game called “Lava”, she would make sure that Kassey and Kaylee fell first by getting in their way, and then she would win the game. Another memory is when the girls were building a snowman with Katelyn. They remember she enjoyed removing the snow more than adding it. It took the girls awhile to complete the snowman, but they worked together (as they always did) and got it done. If you know Kassey and Katelyn well, you know they always had their birthday parties together. Kassey recalls that she usually didn’t get to blow out her own candles because Katelyn would blow her candles first and would blow out Kassey’s at the same time.
Riding and working with horses is a family affair for Jeremy, Kristy, and the girls. Some of their favorite memories were made on the farm. When Katelyn got her pony it didn't have a name so she named him her favorite word “Baby”. One day as they were on their way home from the farm, Katelyn said “sissy baby” and we knew just what she wanted. She wanted to go see her pony. Another funny memory of a family horseback ride was when they all went trail riding and Katelyn got to ride with Kristy. While enjoying the ride, the saddle came loose and Katelyn leaned one way too far and Quincy, the horse, stopped to scratch on a post at the same time. Kristy, Katelyn and the saddle slide off. Time spent at the farm was definitely some of Katelyn’s most enjoyable. We could tell because her face would light up and that was priceless. Or as Kaylee says “it was the best thing ever.”
Katelyn loved to go to school and spend time with her classmates and teachers. If she was not well enough to go to school and had to stay home, she would show Kristy and Jeremy her dismay by wrinkling up her forehead. Her classmates missed her while she was gone and they were always excited when she came back to class. Other activities Katelyn enjoyed are camping and going on boat rides, four wheeling, going on family vacations, and spending time with her grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Katelyn came to rest on Friday March 20, 2015, at home surrounded by her family. She was loved and will be missed by everyone that was a part of her life.
