Julia Emelia Gunderson was born October 21, 1922, the daughter of Thorvald & Anna Laumb, in Montevideo. She was baptized in Mandt Lutheran Church and confirmed in the Lutheran faith on August 30, 1936. Julia attended country school in District 54 and graduated from the Montevideo High School in 1941. Julia was united in marriage to LaVon Gunderson on October 21, 1944 at Mandt Lutheran Church. She worked for twenty years at Doege's and the Appleton Municipal Nursing Home as a CNA and Rehab Aide. She was active with the American Legion Auxiliary and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She was a lifelong member of the WELCA and Love Circle and also a Goldstar Mother. She enjoyed her flowers, feeding many birds and watching wildlife on the farm. She also enjoyed spending time with family, grandchildren and great grandchildren, watching old westerns and country music shows with LaVon and the Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune. Julia passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo. She was 89 years of age. She is survived by her husband LaVon; son John (Renay) Gunderson; grandchildren: Douglas Gunderson of Milan; Julie (Gary) Vien of Maricopa, Arizona and Jeff (Jenny) Jacoby of Centennial, Colorado; great grandchildren: Hayley & John Robert Gunderson of Milan and Hannah, Heidi & Halle Jacoby of Centennial, Colorado; daughter-in-law Barb (Lyle) Swenson of Raymond; brother-in-law Donald (Wendy) Gunderson of Weatherford, Texas; three sisters: Emma (Kenneth) Koenen of Maynard; Signe (Gifford) Ovre of St. Paul and Alice Cronen of Clara City; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son Thomas Gunderson; daughter Marianne Jacoby; granddaughter Melissa Gunderson; five sisters; four brothers and four brothers-in-law.
